On July 27th, the longest total lunar eclipse in the century took place, which lasted for 6 hrs. While no one cared for the eclipse, I spent the night out at Azadi square trying to take a time-lapse photo of the eclipse with intervals of 5 mins over Azadi tower.
During the eclipse, the moon turns red, becoming "Blood Moon". The red color is caused by Rayleigh scattering of sunlight through the Earth's atmosphere, the same effect that causes sunsets to appear red.
